CARANCHO (THE VULTURE) is the subject for the third part of our Discover Now series on Pablo Trapero.

Ricardo Darín (star of the Oscar®-winning THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES) and Martina Gusman (BORN & BRED, LION'S DEN) give unforgettable performances in the gripping and highly acclaimed thriller CARANCHO (THE VULTURE), an exhilarating journey into the darker side of Buenos Aires life from leading Argentinean director Pablo Trapero.

Every year more than 8,000 deaths are caused by road accidents in Argentina. This is an average of 22 deaths a day. In addition, about 120,000 people a year are injured in road accidents. In the past decade this meant in excess of 100,000 deaths. The millions that are needed by the victims and their families to cope with medical and legal costs represent a huge market sustained by the settlements paid out by insurance companies and the fragility of the law. Each of these unfortunate incidents could bring with it a business opportunity.

Sosa (Darín) is an ambulance-chasing personal injury lawyer with questionable ethics. Lujan (Gusman) is a young, idealistic country doctor new to the city. As their lives become intertwined, they form an unlikely romance that becomes threatened by Sosa’s turbulent past.

CARANCHO is a hard-hitting, edge-of-your seat experience that juggles the emotional turmoil of its riveting central characters with a visceral physicality that grabs your attention from the start and never lets go.

Pablo Trapero on CARANCHO

"This film is a classic black thriller. Like those in the 40’s or 50’s, in which the detective-like plot is silently shaped into the portrait of a complex social pattern. It is also the description of the private lives of two characters trying to live through an unstable world, where a seemingly minor act may well trigger a series of fatal outcomes.  It is, in its own way, a love story between a man and a woman, immersed in a market where disgrace is the currency."
